In my new work, I strive to capture an earthy energy - a real sense of the incredible natural pigments that I use to make the paint. Though largely abstract, you'll always find hints of the coast, the mountains and a reflection of the seasons.

Based on the edge of the beautiful Gower Peninsula, Rhiannon Thomas works with large and dramatic coastal inspired pieces that are created using the paint she makes from naturally sourced pigment. Using charcoals from fire pits, smudging sage, sands gathered from local beaches and soils from Scottish Munros (to name but a few examples), Rhiannon is able to create paintings that have a remarkable earthy energy. Mixed with pure rainwater and applied in thick, fluid layers, these pieces are deeply textured and finished with veins of 22 carat gold or hand hammered Italian Silver.
