'Call of the Mountains
'Call of the Mountains'
Made from the most beautiful pigment, 'Call of the Mountains' is a large 24x30" framed original.
By using the rusted red soils of the Welsh mountain Pen Y Fan (the highest in southern Britain) and the chocolatey rich earth of its twin peak Corn Du, I was able to get an intense base layer that was bursting with texture. The addition of firepit charcoals allowed for added drama and depth in the lower sections. Once dried, the sandy and root rich soil of Scottish Munro Beinn Ghlas lifted the piece with its much needed biscuit and honey tones. Finally, I lightened the steely greys of Munro Ben Lawers to give an ethereal and almost cloud like quality, before finishing 'Call of the Mountains' with veins of 22carat Gold.
This piece resonates deeply with me, since I come from the Welsh Valleys and grew up surrounded by its beautiful mountains. It's a painting that vibrates with an earthy and dramatic energy - incorporating some of the most impressive natural locations in the UK.
