Perhaps known better as the Kingfisher, 'Halcyon' is a fond nickname for this swift and iridescent bird. As part of the Kingfisher series, this original follows the same Autumnal tones, with its heavy pigment and textured layers. To the right of the piece you may notice the tall Riverside trees, reflected in the flowing water, the clutter of fallen leaves on the waters edge and the Halcyon bird, now little more than a turquoise flare.
Sands from Gower, pigment from Schiehallion, Beinn Ghlas and Britain's tallest mountain Ben Nevis, are woven throughout. Mixed with stream water from the Welsh peak Cadair Idris and red river clay from the twin peaks of Pen Y Fan, this dramatic original has an earthy and spellbinding energy.
'Halcyon' has a strip of pure 22 carat gold and is the first of my work to include genuine Red Jasper.
