This piece is the first of my new body of work to literally incorporate the earth beneath our feet. I've been inspired by the landscape and the old architecture for years, so including the land into the paint by means of grinding and creating pigments, has been a real turning point for me. The canvas is rich with an orange clay like soil picked from the Gower landscape. The intensive blacks are the result of charcoal collected from a fire pit I found beneath an ancient oak. From the fire you can watch over the ancient burial chamber that sits quietly, 50ft away.
The earth has been woven into this piece and I for one, cannot get enough of it. . .
