Inspired by the black beaches of the Icelandic Coast, this striking original is one of my more dramatic landscape pieces. With its charcoal rich shoreline, it is the layers of ground Mussel shell, Gower sands and coastal soils that add to the densely textured foreground, giving the impression of a turbulent, weather worn volcanic island. 'Svartur' meaning 'Black' in Icelandic describes the heart of this piece. Intense, deep and all encompassing.
